In the Meanwhile
Improvisational performance piece.
Contemporary movement and contact improvisation.
Date
Winter 2025
In the Meanwhile is an improvised performance work grounded in contact and contemporary movement, exploring the relational space that exists between bodies—the shared, shifting terrain of co-creation. This work invites performers to inhabit the in-between: the pauses, the hesitations, the subtle negotiations that shape every human interaction.
Influenced by concepts from relational psychology, particularly intersubjectivity, this piece investigates how meaning, power, and emotion are constantly formed and re-formed in real time between individuals. The performers use the language of movement—touch, timing, spatial awareness—to navigate a field of shared perception and presence. Rather than focusing on fixed narratives, In the Meanwhile centers the felt sense of relationship: how we respond, how we adjust, how we choose to meet or resist what’s offered.
This is a work about resonance and rupture. About being in process with others. About the fragile, fertile space of “meanwhile”—where nothing is certain, but everything is alive.
